09:07 AM ET 06.16 | After playing a pivotal role in the Celtics' run to the Eastern Conference finals, Brandon Bass has decided to opt out of the final year of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent. His agent, Tony Dutt, said Bass would like to return to the Celtics but also wants the option of exploring the free agent market. Bass averaged a career-best 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds in 59 regular-season games. He had his best performance of the playoffs in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals when he led the Celtics with 27 points, including 18 in the third quarter. Bass was acquired from the Orlando Magic for Glen Davis and Von Wafer, immediately paying dividends as a power forward to team with Kevin Garnett.

Good for you Brandon. Go and get paid you deserve it. Teams have been underestimating your talent and therefore devaluing you. The only hope is for the Celtics to not foolishly follow in the equally foolish footsteps of the Magic who could not evalute talent at all. I assume the Celtics could when they traded for Bass. That turn out to be a steal of a deal by comparison. If the Celts are concerned about cap I could see them not signing Bass, but if they have the room Bass should both be sign and paid. In any event Bass will get paid and deservingly so!

Go ask Otis Smith & SVG, they have a storied history of it...i.g. Nelson, Reddick, Gortat, Turk., not to mention the other ridiculous signings and trades. But you're right, not in this NBA economy. Bass on the other hand will easily command 6.5 to 8.5, 4yrs......bank on it!

Buyer beware on Green. Firstly he just had a MAJOR heart procedure. Secondly, he's the least talented of the OKC quartet which is why they let him go in a LOP SIDED trade. Just depends on how much C's will pay him to re-sign. To me, he's NOT a player worth more than MLE.

Pietrus is a decent player, coming off the bench. But C's don't even have starting rotation. They have MUCH bigger things to worry than bench players right now.
