Why Dodgers may test pitching market

10:06 AM ET 06.16 | Maybe you think starting pitching is the least of the Dodgers' worries. After the Nationals, the Dodgers' rotation features the lowest ERA (3.07) and opponents' batting average (.230) in the majors. Not a current weak link in the group. But the news on left-hander Ted Lilly is not encouraging. He hasn't pitched in over three weeks and still hasn't been able to resume throwing. No one seems real certain when he will be able to. The Dodgers are one injury away from John Ely, Take 14. For now they're OK, but it's a precarious position. Certainly the Dodgers would like to add another bat to their lineup, but another starting pitcher grows as a need with each day Lilly remains out.

If I am the Dodgers I am looking at Triple A for short time help instead of renting a pitcher for the rest of the season.

The news about Lilly IS encouraging to Dodger fans. I hate watching him pitch. Guys steal on him without really needing big jumps. Any way, Eovaldi is pitching lights out. If the Dodgers could score a few runs for him he'd be 3-0. They need Kemp back and a big bat at 1B or 3B. Preferrably at 3B because we need Loney at first or Gordon would have 25 errors by now.

Yeah, and the St. Louis Browns had a midget named Eddie Gaedel pinch hit?

So?
