Can Lincecum stay in Giants' rotation?

08:19 AM ET 06.17 | Tim Lincecum had announced that he needed to make a stand, to prove he was worth keeping in the rotation. Pitching in his hometown for the first time as a professional he did neither. So now, the "what's next" questions grow more urgent. With a tougher stretch of schedule near, the question of removing Lincecum from the rotation, even for one start, must be revisited. If the Giants broach it with the 28-year-old right-hander they will get a fight. "I want to pitch every fifth day," Lincecum said in a deathly quiet Giants clubhouse. "I want that ball." Manager Bruce Bochy has spoken firmly about not skipping Lincecum, but if the staff decides to go that way, the time to do it is now.

This part is over for this year. His mechanics are a mess and his confidence is shot. I guess he is all "Freaked Out".

He will be fine.....his head was just messed up for a little while because he heard Fred OBannion was driving around the ballpark parking lot in his pickup with a paddle

Haha. In all seriousness, maybe the bullpen will help the guy.

Why would the Cubs, an awful last place team, trade for a guy that is having an awful season with a high price tag? I doubt the Giants give up on him.

If this is the end (unlikely) then he's had a pretty good prime years. He's pitched a lot, and that throwing motion puts quite a bit of stress on his arm.

Because they've done it before? Often? Besides, you're right SF isn't giving up yet.

They've done it before under a different front office. The Tribune company and Hendry are gone. I don't think Epstein and Hoyer would bite on a guy like Lincecum in this hypothetical.

Sure they can...if the Giants somehow want to eat the approximately $9mil left on this year's part of his contract and $22mil for next year.....

Every baseball scout in the world saw this coming...he had his little run and now either he's tipping his pitches or his so called great mechanics his father taught him aren't so great and are wearing out his arm..

That's a great idea. He can't pitch in the NL West, he's sure to turn it around in the Al East.
