Will Brewers dangle Greinke for trade?

08:38 AM ET 06.17 | Did the Brewers go from potential buyers on the trade market to sellers in the span of one series? That question gained legitimacy after the Brewers suffered three excruciating losses in Kansas City at the beginning of the week, losing each game in the Royals' final at-bat to a team that had not come from behind in the ninth inning all season. Starting pitchers Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum are upcoming free agents, and Randy Wolf has a club option for $10 million that won't be exercised. Reliever Francisco Rodriguez might draw interested parties despite his season-long shakiness (0-4, 4.30 ERA). Owner Mark Attanasio is not a white-flag kind of guy. He likes drawing 3 million fans and putting competitive teams on the field. But, if this club continues to founder, important decisions must be made between mid-July and the beginning of next season that could affect the Brewers for years to come.

Anyone need a pitcher that is only great at home games>

Mart??n Maldonado and George Kottaras need to be the bait. When Narveson comes back around next season the pitching core can be there for the most part. Just let Wolf and Suck-Rod be the ones who definitely take a hike.

Detroit... .... move Porcello and throw in a extra outfielder ( they're stocked with some good talent)

this guy is overrated anyway, move him now while he has value. You small market teams can't afford to hold too long. Branch Rickey once said - He'd rather get ride of a player a year too soon than a year too late, obviously he was referring to age but that wisdom can also be applied to pending free agents as well

Greinke is the only one in this article that any team will want. It is nothing more than a crap shoot for these small market teams. If you throw in the towel you will become a double loser with your team and your fans who will stop coming.

I'd rather not trade Porcello yet. He's only 23.

June 18, 2012  09:35 AM ET

KC would love to have him back!

June 18, 2012  11:27 AM ET

To be perfectly honest, the Brewers are 8.5 games back right now but the NL Central is still an extremely winnable division... not necessarily because the Brewers are a more solid team than their record indicates, but because the NL Central is a pretty weak division. I still say they should try to re-sign Greinke first, this team would more directly be in the division race if they didnt lose 3 starters for the entire season already.
