Manuel's act falling on deaf ears

08:24 AM ET 06.18 | Swept over the weekend by way of a 6-2 Sunday loss in Toronto, Philadelphia also lost a golden chance to make up some ground on the Nationals. For a team that professes to love its manager, the Phillies have an odd way of showing it. For a team whose core players have praised Charlie Manuel's positive and passive managerial style over the years, they sure seem to be begging their way toward being managed by a guy on the other end of that spectrum with their play this season. Make no mistake: This is not a call for Manuel's managerial head. Just a recognition of what often happens when teams leave runners all over the place, overrun balls and throw them over each other's heads.

Wait, they're not talking about the Tigers?

To me the manager gets to much credit and to much blame for his team. When you are losing like this some of the veterans on the team have to take charge. It not time for the Phils to throw in the towel just yet with over half of the season left. This article and their fans need to remember that there is an extra wild card team this year and they right in the middle of it.

It looks like Cliff Lee is being wasted on this team too. It's pretty sad when your a Hall of Fame pitcher, playing like an all-star, and you have lost 11 straight on your team. Looks like they need a better line up.

and evidently they have little to nothing in the minors to build with

The phillies are playing like a team that doesn't believe it can win. Their reception coming back home after this abysmal roadtrip should be interesting.

Where exactly is the Hall of Famer? Cliff Lee is NO hall of famer. By that measuring stick, half the league is hall of fame material.
He's got 119 wins and a 3.64 ERA in his career. Stick to making fun of the Phils and less time showing off your ignorance.

Although the injury bug isn't helping (Utley- 80+ rbi's, and Howard 130+ rbi's per season) The Phils' just seem listless. Defense is poor, The bullpen took the season off and the remaining starting lineup , well who knows. They've lost the drive thats kept the at the top of the division for years. The coach must assume some of the blame but not all of it. This is a problem starting with Ruben Amaro Jr.

Well, gee you know, if Cliff Lee was such a mediocre pitcher, why was he such a hot comodity when he became a free agent after the 2010 season. Even the Yankees cried foul when they lost him to the Phillies. Why did the Rangers trade many of thier players to try to get Cliff Lee in the first place?
