08:25 AM ET 06.18 | Thirtieth-round draft picks don't generally have long shelf lives in baseball, where long lines of prospects are quick to get lost in the shuffle. Justin Miller, the Padres' 30th-round pick in the 2011 draft, is making waves. The 23-year-old out of Southeastern Oklahoma State went 4-for-4 Saturday night to raise his batting average to .396 in the 26 games he's played for Single-A Lake Elsinore. Over his first 104 games at the lowest four levels of the Padres farm system, Miller has hit .336 with 26 doubles, five triples and four homers with 49 RBI and 61 runs scored in 375 at-bats. "He's an over-achieving player with a nice swing," Padres director of player development Randy Smith said recently in describing the 5-foot-9, 190-pound Miller.

It is a nice story and I hope the kid makes it. But he is already 23 and in their lowest level and he is hitting college like pitching. The further you go up the ball starts moving a lot more and the question all of the scouts ask can he hit a curve ball.

Didn't get done what I wanted to get done - but pleasant none the less. Wanted to get some wood working done - but the friend of mine who's in the hospital; his wife needed some help doing some shopping for the coffee shop at the church - so we did that for her. Then had to give a blind gal a ride to church saturday evening. The nice part was yesterday - spent most of the day relaxing in the very agreeable 80 weather on our back porch. That part was very enjoyable.
