NHL has plans to take Devils from Vanderbeek

08:46 AM ET 06.18 | Fresh off an inspiring run to the Cup finals, Devils owner Jeff Vanderbeek may be on the verge of being shut out. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is preparing to take control of the money-losing hockey franchise in the event Vanderbeek fails to refinance the Devils' debt before a looming Aug. 14 deadline, The Post has learned. In recent days, the commissioner's office has told potential suitors to be ready in case he moves on the team and pushes Vanderbeek aside, a source close to the situation said. Vanderbeek is near a deal to sell a majority stake to a mystery investor, which would allow him to keep control of the Eastern Conference champions, one source said.

The guy who wrote this is either really on the story or has been making it up for months. I guess we will find out soon. Over the last 6 months he has been updating this story every month, of course it changes a little, but I am sure the true story changed too. Now this is the NY Post so it leads me to believe it isn't true, but this is from one of their business "journalists" so maybe they do a better job then the sports guys. My guess is if this isn't correct, they will do what Larry Brooks does, "a last minute change of plans helped ______". Last week other publications said they found minority investors from Ontario.

I think they struggled to sell out games 1&2 of the finals. I was told ticketmaster had seats available fairly close to game day.
