08:08 AM ET 06.19 | Count Saints quarterback Drew Brees among those who want to see more compelling evidence from the league. Even though quarterback [Brees] has been away from his teammates all offseason as his agent and New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis haggle over the details of a contract extension, it's clear that Brees is firmly in his teammates corner. He posted this message on his Twitter account Monday evening after the NFL revealed some of the evidence it has on the bounty program it says the Saints ran on defense from 2009-2011. "If NFL fans were told there were "weapons of mass destruction" enough times, they'd believe it. But what happens when you don't find any????"

How would he like it if there had been a bounty paid when he hurt his shoulder in San Diego?

IF there were no evidence, why did Payton, Williams and Loomis, not fight their suspensions at least to clear their names?

At some point the Goodell power trip must be slowed down. Unfortunately the players signed that power over to him (maybe they can argue duress?) because their money was dwindling. Had they stood firm a little longer they might not be in this spot. Think they would trade an 18 game season to not have Goodell as the "judge-jury-executioner"?

For the players part, it doesn't sound like they are arguing there was no "play for pay" performance scheme- just that there isn't any specific evidence that those four players should get penalized while the rest of the defense doesn't.

Good point.
And if there's any reason that the league is going to hold back on making any information public, it just gives players the opportunity to say there isn't enough information to support the accusations to begin with.

You are most likely correct. Remember people, the penalties are about the cover up, not the crime. In 2009 the Saints were told to stop it, they said OK, we will and have, but they continued on with it . The HC lied and the GM lied to Goodel and the owner claimed ignorance of it all. That is the ONLY reason this whole thing got this far.
It is about lies to the League office. Not what they did, the league was willing to sweep that under the carpet in 2009.
