08:13 AM ET 06.19 | The tale of two guards, one about to hit the jackpot, the other nearing the end of his career, are linked. Jason Kidd is more than willing to return to the Dallas Mavericks next season, even if the team will offer him only a one-year contract. The free-agent point guard also mentioned the possibilities of being the backup to Deron Williams with the Brooklyn Nets, to Jeremy Lin with the New York Knicks, and to Derrick Rose with Chicago. ... Kidd, 39, though, expressed that his first choice is to come back and help the Mavs win their second NBA title in three seasons. "I really think that [owner Mark] Cuban is going to put the pieces together to get us back to have that opportunity to play for a championship," Kidd said.

He'd be a good mentor for J Lin - Much more durable than the other fossils we had in Baron and Bibby...

They have Dirk and if they get Deron, keep Marion or trade him for say a Gerald Wallace and an upcoming C in Mahimi and $ to spend I'm sure they could get a piece or 2 that would put them in the top half of the Western conf.

Wasn't there something about Dwight Howard wanting to play with Deron Williams because they were friends? If Dallas gets Deron, I expect a hard chase for D Howard would be the next move. IMO

The Mavs are far from done, everyone knows in basketball that one play, one game can change the outcome of a series so I can only imagine what would of happened if Durant had missed the game winner in Game 1 and lost home court advantage. Would the Mavs still lost in 5 or would they have won the series?

Not to mention Dirk just turned 34, hes got atleast 3 or 4 good years left in him easy, remember when you get older the first things to go are your athleticism and your agility, but fortunately for Dirk his game involves neither of those.
