08:16 AM ET 06.19 | The Kevin Youkilis era may be drawing to an end in Boston. Trade dialogue surrounding the beleaguered Boston third baseman has intensified in the last 24 to 48 hours, major-league sources told FOXSports.com. The Red Sox have made clear that (a) Youkilis is available and (b) they are willing to include cash to facilitate a better player return. In response, a number of clubs have indicated that they have interest in acquiring the three-time All-Star. "He's being shopped everywhere," said one high-ranking official with a National League club. ... The Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates are among the teams with varying levels of interest in acquiring Youkilis, sources say.

Like the Phillies, it's possible that the Red Sox are about to enter some kind of modified rebuilding mode, perhaps a year too late.

The way he's playing this year, I can't see why anybody would want him. Boston needs to find a way to get Middlebrooks in the lineup every day either way. And with Kalish healthy and Cody Ross coming off the DL Gonzo will be back playing 1B every day. There is no room for Youk, and every team knows this. Boston will get nothing for him.

I see Oakland in Youk's future

June 19, 2012  08:55 AM ET

Wow....wonder what the fans are saying? Won't matter if he doesn't start to hit.....

June 19, 2012  09:03 AM ET

I wish him well. Until the injuries hit he was solid at both 1st and 3rd and maybe a change of scenery will do him good.

June 19, 2012  09:09 AM ET

This guy is an outstanding competitor, that in and of itself would make him an outstanding asset to any Team!

Ditto.

He will really help an AL team because they would be getting three positions instead of just two in the NL.

June 19, 2012  09:33 AM ET

Please do not end up on the White Sox.

You got it. At least it is not a long term problem.

June 19, 2012  09:40 AM ET

This guy is not done. He has a lot of baseball left in him, and a team will get a bargain. He is from Cincinnati, so that would make sense, except that the Reds have Scott Rolen coming back. Personally, the Dodgers would be a good fit, in my opinion.

June 19, 2012  09:55 AM ET

I'm going to miss that buzzard.

little, anyway, maybe nothing.

How much is a utility infielder worth? not what he gets paid.

Which is probably why they are better off just keeping him. Decent bat coming off the bench and good insurance in case anything happens to Middlebrooks, Gonzo or Papi.

And who knows, maybe he can play himself back into relevancy.

youkills poor avg can't help him at all, should the red sox trade him for lidge from the nationals???

June 19, 2012  12:13 PM ET

I'm not even a Boston fan but when Valentine trashed Youk in public I immediately took an interest in seeing him do well.

Two years too late, before they signed Crawford and Lackey!
Theo just admitted as much in his Friday Boston Globe interview.

Agree, he was a major asset to the team for many years and real fans should treat him with respect as he goes out the door. Time catches up with all of us!
