Cubs make room for Rizzo

Either the original story was directly referring to a thesis not referenced in this snippet OR the original was mangled by the SN compositor. Either way, it is bloody awful.

It was a no brainer all along. It is hard for me to understand why it took the Cubs this long to react.

Exactly. That was the biggest fear. Now, Theo can try to deal DeJesus, or move him to center until Jackson arrives.

I love the direction the Cubs are going in and here's why Im so optimistic:

Zambrano $19,000,000
Dempster - $14,000,000
Marmol - $7,000,000 ($9,800,000 in 2013)
Soriano - $18,000,000 (the same in 2013/2014)
Soto - $4,300,000

That's over $37,000,000 coming off the books at the end of this year, another $28,000,000 off the books at the end of 2013, and another $18,000,000 slashed at the end of 2014. And from just FIVE guys leaving the payroll. The Cubs prospects that they've already signed and will be signing (including Almora and Soler) will have two and a half more years to develop in the minors prior to the 2015 season, and by the time that season starts you'll have dropped around $60,000,000 off the payroll just from the guys mentioned above. That equals a whole hell of a lot of money to spend on free agents to supplement the prospects that will have arrived at the major league level by then.

2015 is my projected year for the Cubs to begin playing winning baseball on yearly basis. I'm certainly not alone in that calculation. Will the next two years be just as dreadful as this year? Most likely... But welcome to rebuilding. And am I expecting a World Series title in 2015? Absolutely not... But I do expect that it will mark the beginning of a franchise that will compete for a division title year in, year out.

People can make jokes and hate all they want but there is FINALLY a modern, intelligent plan on the North Side, and Theo/Jed/Jason are going to have several tens of millions of dollars to work with by 2015 when many of these prospects will be MLB ready.

Brett Jackson won't be arriving anytime soon. He is doing awful at triple a too many strikeouts and obp is horrible. I think the Cubs have given up on him.

Theyre not even close to giving up on him. It's the first year he's ever struggled lol
