08:19 AM ET 06.19 | Can a guy whose pitches flutter seemingly randomly be the best in baseball? Wait a moment, and read some R.A. Dickey facts, now that he just became the first pitcher in 24 years to throw back-to-back one-hitters: He's gone 42 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. ... He had 12 straight hitless innings before Wilson Betemit's fifth-inning single Monday night, and another four hitless innings after it. ... He has as many strikeouts this year as Justin Verlander, tied for the most in the majors. He has seven straight starts with at least eight strikeouts, one shy of Randy Johnson's major-league record. ... Over those seven starts, he has six walks and 71 strikeouts. ... Best pitcher in baseball? You're thinking about it now, aren't you?

lol....

Dickey has been bloody marvelous virtually all season long. And couldn't have happened to a nicer, more thoughtful guy. If the past is any indication, this is where he gets traded for two washed-up former first basemen.

At the moment, how can you argue it? He's been lights out. this hot streak may turn into something even more special....nasty filthy stuff!!

This is great - the knuckleball is going by way of the do-do and it is great that this viable pitch has at least on last gasp of success. I find it funny they call this pitch "unconventional" when it has been in the league(s) since it's/there inception.....

Why the LOL? He's been pitching great so far this season - you can't argue the statistics.... For this year that is....

It's an unbelievable, feel good story.

I'd like to - but I doubt LaRussa will do that. But who knows...

LaRussa is no longer the manager.

June 19, 2012  08:48 AM ET

I can't express how tickled I am that he is doing well. I watched the last half of the ball game last night and was entralled with his effectivness and keeping the ball in the strike zone. They even showed a couple of his pitches in the super Slo Mo speed and it is amazing at the complete lack of rotation on the ball. His is a fingertip knuckler (thus the additional speed on most of the pitches) - but it works just the same. His speed variance was incredible. He did get a couple of generous strikes toward the end of the game - but it was a beauty to watch.

I thought he was coming back for the AS. Who is his replacement?

By the way - Morning all!

Sorry. You are correct. He will be only the 2nd retired manager to manage an ASG. John Magraw was the other one.

Actually - LaRussa will be managing - according to MLB press releases earlier in the year.

I think he is LOL, because typically, knuckleball pitchers have a a good game or two and then the hitters figure him out. Let's not get too excited about Dickey just yet, as the season isn't even half over!!!

June 19, 2012  08:55 AM ET

Don't care for the Mets - however, I do root for RA Dickey.

There is no question that Dickey will be the starter. The only good thing for the NL regarding home field in the World Series if he pitches he should have an advantage. Because there is not a good knuckle ball pitcher in the AL.
