08:19 AM ET 06.19 | Out since early May, Rays 3B Evan Longoria won't be making his hoped-for return to the lineup this week. Longoria's minor-league rehab assignment was suspended indefinitely Monday night after he experienced discomfort in his partially torn left hamstring. Longoria will join the Rays in Washington today and continue his rehab there, with no timetable for his return. The Rays said Longoria, in the second game of his rehab with Triple-A Durham, didn't want to push it after feeling soreness as he ran to first base in Rochester, so he was lifted in the third inning for a pinch-hitter. "Wasn't a reinjury, just felt some discomfort and didn't want to end up doing further harm," Longoria tweeted.

Oh, what a shame. With Longoria, the Rays would really be giving people trouble this year. Perhaps someone will become available at the trading deadline.

It has been a struggle for them offensively, but their pitching always manages to keep them in the playoff picture.

Let The Guy Sit, the rest of the team has to step up!

I understand Boston is willing to give up Youkilis--he could fill in until Longoria is healthy.

Great idea! Tampa will trade you Longoria's jockstrap for Youk.

I don't think Boston would let him go to a Team in their Division, the last thing they want is for him to come back and bury them!

Good point; the suggestion was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but still that is the sort of deal that happens. Most teams won't want Youk--he is old, injury prone, his range is limited, he is prone to extended batting slumps, and he gets paid too much money. But with the Yankees starting to pull away in the East and the Angels breathing down TB's neck for the wildcard spot, he might look like a decent band-aid to TB. And Boston trying and failing to find any takers for him, might realize that trading him in the division is better than being stuck with an expensive player they have no lineup room for.

...there's still a ton of ball to be played....and after witnessing the Cardinals win it all in 2011, all bets are off until we can make make some serious conclusions late this season. The Sox are still only 4 games out of the Wild Card...and with players coming off the DL, anything can happen...Longoria being out will impact the Rays...the guy is a stud....God I wish he played in Fenway....

See waht happens in baseball !!!!! they rush guys these are not the athletes from the 70s and 80s these guys are weaker so they need to pamperd longer.

Isn't this the year that they're adding wild card spots? Isn't it possible for a total of three teams to come out of the same (AL East) division and still make the playoffs? True, the Sox don't want Youk turning around and biting them in the arse, and on the other hand if Sox were to make a trade with TB couldn't what they give up turn around and bite them as well. Even if it is Longoria's Jockstrap...if used properly... Just saying...sometimes the risk might be worth the reward.
