08:28 AM ET 06.19 | Paul Holmgren said Monday he liked his team, which isn't to say the Flyers' roster is all set. This year, it's easier to believe Holmgren when he hints that wholesale changes won't be made in the days leading up to Friday's first round of the NHL draft. ... New Jersey left winger Zach Parise and Nashville defenseman Ryan Suter are marquee free agents who will hit the open market on July 1. The Flyers will make inquiries about both players, an NHL source said. "If we can improve our team, we'll do what it takes," Holmgren said when asked about free agents in general. As for their own prospective unrestricted free agents, Holmgren remains optimistic he will be able to sign defenseman Matt Carle; he seemed lukewarm about resigning right winger Jaromir Jagr.

Question: Will their awful goaltending situation change FA's minds about wanting to play in Philly? They have $9 mil in space, so it's not like they can blow these guys' minds with outrageous contracts.

Question: Will their awful goaltending situation change FA's minds about wanting to play in Philly? They have $9 mil in space, so it's not like they can blow these guys' minds with outrageous contracts (mostly because they did that last year with the aforementioned awful goaltending).

Doubt it, as long as the team is showing an effort to not only compete, but to win, year in and year out FA will consider it as Philly is a hockey hot spot.
I also think that they way the Flyers take care of their players, even after they can't play, has to have a effect on players decisions. Goaltending was bad last year but the only thing awful was the D, people will remember the bad goals but seem to forget the constant odd man rushes that Bryz was able to stop keeping them in games.

Not relevant to 20-somethings like Suter and Parise. They each have 10+ years left

9m in cap space? First, that is not enough to get both guys. Second, how do you pay anyone else?

I don't think the goaltending situation would, but the size and length of the contract(s) would affect any decision making

Spot on -- they need size and grit more than goal scorers. Included in their D needs are forwards who are committed to playing on the defensive end.

Well my point with the goaltending situation is that this team is probably nowhere near a contender as a byproduct of their being locked into a terrible situation.

I think maybe a dman should be the priority here?

"Flyers will pitch Parise, Suter"
The Flyers don't own the rights for either player. How can they pitch someone they don't have?

The real question is, what if these UFA's like to drink, will it be OK with the team or will they make them sign contracts saying they won't drink first, before their actual contracts.

Just give them a weekend with Patrick Kane, that'll be a real test for them.

Homer's working on this Danny. Something about a pool party at Rodney's house.

The cap is going up on July 1. And, the Flyers are not going to try to sign Parise. I read this article before work today and it is nothing but speculation. Holmgren stated clearly that he was happy with his forwards, so at most, he might try for Suter.

Yea, right. SC Finals in 2010, playoff team last two years making the second round each year. But, they aren't contenders. Maybe, being in Toronto, you've forgotten what it means to be a contender and you're confused.

It is and Holmgren said that in the article without coming right out and saying that was his focus.

Can't we all get along Rodney? As Ernie Harwell used to say he's 'long gone'

That was also implied. Tho, Jagr did not hurt the team in any way.

I don't see him coming back, sometime during traing camp he'll pull the plug.
