Kovalchuk not alone among Devils facing surgery

08:36 AM ET 06.19 | Unfortunately for Devils fans, the only parade they're seeing this June is one to the infirmary. Devils winger Ilya Kovalchuk may not be the only player on the team who needs offseason medical attention, general manager Lou Lamoriello said [Monday]. Kovalchuk, who was bothered during the playoffs by a herniated disc in his back, is undergoing MRIs and tests to determine whether he will need surgery or other attention this summer. "We're not sure of that yet," Lamoriello said. "We're still going for tests. We're still having MRIs done." ... Lamoriello said several players, in addition to Kovalchuk, may require offseason medical attention. "Yes," Lamoriello said. He would not name the other players still bothered by injuries.

I was going to say, "Heart transplant for Kovy?" But, Ilya proved he doesn't need it during these playoffs. It just might be minor cosmetic surgery to repair a bruised ego. :-)

Nard...I'm sorry to say, but your coach is a bone head. Due to the fact that he knew he was playing hurt.
So why...did he continue to play him with extended ice-time and pp time?
It was clear he was not up to the task...the coach owns this idiotic plan.

He was hurt all playoffs. I'm convinced he got hurt the second to last game of the season. I complained about his ice time during the year saying it would catch up to him. I don't know the exact injury, because Lou never tells anyone anything, but if it has to do with fatigue I will be annoyed. I thought Pete coached very well and made just a few mistakes, but playing Kovy as much as he did was one of them. I guess it worked up until that point so he figured to keep trying. I just want to know what it is. Is Lou afraid Kovy's maid will check him if she finds out his injury?

What a sensationalist headline, the actual article just says multiple players are having things checked out, no one is slated for surgery as of yet Kovy included.

We had similar silliness in Philly last week. There was a "report" that JVR was putting off surgery to try to prevent a trade. Newspapers oughta let their beat writers who cover a specific sport take time off in the off season rather than spread nonsense.

Nard - problem is, PDB is dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't play Kovy. Kovy was injured - we knew that, but if PDB plays him too much OR too little, people will still complain. No win scenario for the coach.

So true. Kovy couldn't ever stop without falling over the last 2 games. Only hope was someone gave him a ton of space, and we got a lucky pass to him for a onetimer. That was all he had left, and the shot was far from his norm. Still a great run, and we still took out the Rangers. Devils Fans, all 3 of us can still smile.
