"Our goal is to continue to be competitive," general manager Ken Holland said, "and part of that is we need our younger guys to be more important." ... Contract talks remain ongoing with pending restricted free agents Justin Abdelkader and Kyle Quincey, but "at some point, they're all going to get signed," Holland said. Though there have been talks, too, with potential unrestricted free agent Jiri Hudler, he's likely to test the market. Allotting around $5 million for Abdelkader and Quincey combined, the Wings will have a little under $20 million to work with when free agency begins July 1.

According to previous threads Detriot was gunning for every player available. They win through the draft, they don't need to over-pay for anyone -- that is what Sather and the Rangers are for.

This will be very interesting off-season for the Wings. If they don't get Parise or Suter, their team is going to be pretty average IMO. I was looking through capgeek to see what impactful players are coming up that they will need space for and Howard is up after this year and Dats in 2 years, but I don't see really anyone else that they would have to save up money for.
