08:07 AM ET 06.21 | Yes, as many speculated, it's about the money in the case of Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew. [Jones-Drew] acknowledged for the first time Wednesday that his absence from the team's offseason workouts and mandatory minicamp is contract related -- something general manager Gene Smith admitted two weeks ago. "This is the side of the NFL that's just as real as Sunday," Jones-Drew told NFL Network by phone. "This is what the NFL is really about. What I can say is that I hope that we can get something done," Jones-Drew added. "To talk about it in the media is not going to help. Hopefully we can have something where we can be able to get out there and play in the future."

If that's your attitude, mister, you can go eff yourself. I don't care if you never play another down.

Why do they sign longterm contracts, it seems like every few years if there doing good or someone else at there same position who didn't do as good and signs a contract for more money, then they want there old contract re-done so they are making the most money.
Agree with Otis ....shut-up and play

Hard to sympathise with a player who demands a renegotiation every two years. He's right, though: "To talk to the media is not going to help". So why, then, is he talking to the media? Otis, Hillbilly and Debbie all have it right: shut up and play or go eff yourself. Your choice, MJD.

When the team you play for was 5-11 and barely scored more points than the punch less Browns, what leverage do you really have? "Lose with me, lose a little more without me?"

Other side is if they are not doing as good, get an injury or the team finds a replacement they can be cut even with a contract, sucks but for the most part players know its only a business and fans only see it as a game...

Which is why most load the front end of the deal and have guaranteed $$. So they get lots of money at the start and then can complain later when the $$ drops.

I'm sick of these whiny millionaires, if they aren't happy with their contracts they signed, go work at McDonalds.
Mangler.

Imagine that it is about money. These teams don't make you sign these contracts, but we never hear about you and your agent taking the blame for signing this contract.

True on all counts... and if he were still on his rookie contract I would probably sympathize with him.
But he is on his 2nd contract with a huge bonus in his pocket. He did his business 2 years ago and was rewarded.
He has zero leverage.

I understand that .....but besides an injury that no-one can for see, and it is part of the game, being cut usually means it is a performance issue. Yes it is a business but on the otherhand the fans are getting fed up with these guys that get a couple of years into a 4 or 5 year contract crying there worth more money and threaten to sit out if the team don't redo the contract. Most contracts are designed to pay most the bonus up front.

Somehow millions of dollars isn't enough to play the game .... so he wants even more millions to play the game??? !@#$%^& pathetic :[ I used to like this guy, but turns out he's just another tool in the tool shed. If you think you will want more down the road, then don't sign the !@#$%^& long-term contract!!!
