08:12 AM ET 06.21 | The Red Sox pounded out a bunch of hits and a bunch of runs Wednesday night against Miami, but Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with zero RBIs. For the season Gonzalez has just five home runs through 67 games, and his .398 slugging percentage is 150 points lower than last season. [Bobby Valentine] was asked if everything involved with playing right field has affected Gonzalez's production at the plate. "Yes, it could have," Valentine said. "We've talked about that and we thought about that and we keep trying to do what's best for the team. We hope that Adrian adjusts any way that he can. He's been a terrific guy on this team, to make that kind of adjustment and do what's right for the team."

This is just the manager taking the heat off one of his players. The fact is that Gonzalez's power numbers have dropped considerably since the All star break last year, long before his games in RF.

The home run derby killed him.

June 21, 2012  08:32 AM ET

The Home Run Derby ruined Josh Hamilton's swing for months. I'm sure the move was the best thing for Boston (can you imagine Ortiz in RF?), but it hasn't helped Gonzo.

We'll see what happens after they move Youk and the daily lineup settles down somewhat.

It's not like Gonzolez was hitting up a storm before the move to right field, but as usual the media needs something to gripe at. Personally I think he's having an issue with his shoulder since he started last year great then really wore down. Plus he doesn't show much patience as a hitter but that happens to many that are slumping.

His swing sure has looked weak since then.

He is swinging at a lot of first pitches this year. I think it's all in his head. Perhaps Ortiz should show him the basics of hitting to the opposite field.

It's just not the same without him ranting all over the place.

Pretty lame excuse why the guys having a below average year at the plate....no worries though they still must have quite few games at Stinkee Stadium ...he'll be able hit a few pop ups out of there.....
