Red Wings star already worried about lockout

08:26 AM ET 06.21 | Not only is the NHL feeling the draft, as well as the free agent signing period after that, but also the more dispiriting topic of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The looming CBA negotiations elicited different reactions across the group of NHL stars at the Wynn Resort and Casino readying for Wednesday night's NHL Awards ceremony. Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk wasn't hiding his concern for the good of the game and the ultimate winners and losers: hockey fans. "Of course I'm worried about it," said Datsyuk when asked about the CBA. "The last lockout was really bad for the fans. If it happened again it would be a bad, bad thing for the fans."

I'm not. They all have their idiotic selves to blame, and i'm sick of the fans having to suffer because of it. Owners give players the big contracts they want, then cry poor. Give me a break. Lock out, and you'll undo all the growth the NHL has seen the past few years.

Actually the fans will do quite well if there is a lock out. We'll watch football, go fishing and generally go about our lives. Its the players who are going to lose out when there isn't as much interest in the game after the strike and teams start folding up. Like dannylimes said it will undo all the gains they've made since the last lock out.

Sadly, there will be a lockout next year as this resembles what happened to the NBA last year. Right now the Players get 57% of overall revenue, the same as the NFL and NBA players did before their lockouts. Both the NFL and NBA players union caved and now they have a 50-50 split with the owners, and the NHL owners will want that same deal.
I believe there will be no games in October/November, and then somebody will have to blink in December/January when the season is in jeopardy. If the NHL loses another season then I don't know if our beloved sport will be able to recover. With Bettman (2 lockouts) vs Fehr (cancelled the 1994 World Series), I have no faith that there will be any games NHL games next fall, as these two live to pound their chest and show their power.

I heard one of hte big issues is % the players are getting. Read it was like 57%, and they want a split like the other leagues. So let's just give them 53% and call it a day.

Although they haven't gone there yet the NHL like the NFL and NBA will be seeking a bigger piece of the pie as the NHLPA gets 57% which is the highest there is of the 3 The players want to look at the teams books (all of the books) to see how much money they actually make then there will be discussions of what is considered revenues as e-commerce from team web sites for example are not included they will both posture and whine about how unfair the other side is and basically look like the spoiled entitled brats that they are
