Dunlap already has 'em running in Charlotte

08:13 AM ET 06.22 | So much for easing into business. New Charlotte Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap jumped into a pre-draft workout Thursday, speeding the pace to the extent former North Carolina star Harrison Barnes called it a "track meet." After the draft candidates left, several current Bobcats worked out. Within minutes of introducing himself, Dunlap jumped in the action, setting screens on big men, fine-tuning driving angles and reminding players to raise their chins to better focus on the rim when shooting. This guy has a lot to fix, with the Bobcats coming off a 7-59 season. Apparently wading into the pool is not his idea of a good swim. "We've got to roll our sleeves up and get going now," Dunlap said as he departed the practice court.

Good.
Jump into the deep end with what talent you have...sink or swim, I say.
So long as he has realistic expectations for his team, that is.

Dunlap could prove some people wrong about him but I don't think his team will.

Jumping in head first...this is a good sign. Give the guy a chance before you all say he'll fail geez..

You Have To Walk Before You Can Run , Bro.

I think he will be a fine coach for the Bobcats. It's just a matter of building a good team for him to coach.

Can't fix limited talent.........Thats a management job

True.....but you can strive to get the most out of the little bit that you have.

And that's what he's gonna have to do for at least the next couple of years.....if he lasts that long.

A great coach CAN get a LOT out of marginal talent and have the team do relatively well. Take Doug Collins and the Sixers. Yes, they got lucky getting past an injury-plagued Bulls team, but hey, they still TOOK that opportunity! And Coach Collins fixed a great deal of their problems. Made them a close-knit group of friends, cut down their turnovers(the broke the all time record for lowest TO average for a season), and made them one of the best defensive teams in the league all year(points allowed and opponents FG%). ...Dunlap has less talent to work with, but young, marginal-to-talented players can be molded better than big-image stars. Give Dunlap a couple years before we grade him.

Dunlop is NOT Doug Collins.
And Bobcats are NOT the Sixers. Their talent level right now is like 5% of Sixers. You can't "extract" anything with so little.
They need a proper NBA team first. Coaching is after that.

So if Charlotte doesn't have a 100% turnover of personnel, Dunlap should just throw-up his hands and say "F*#k It"......is that it?

Agree with you. Collins has always, even in his playing days, been a smart man who uses his passion in constructive ways. Bobcats getting a coach from the college ranks has red flags all over it. I guess Charlotte wa looking for a guy who will "coach/teach" young projects, rather than a pro coach who handles more big-name personalities.Maybe not a bad idea in the short-term, but not a good idea past 3 years unless he shows he can step up........Philly has far more talent, but 2 years ago they were young(still are), clueless, and leaderless (not saying that Iggy is the best player, but he is their leader - defensive first - and the offense runs best with him getting his paws on the ball early and facilitates the movement). We'll see who Charlotte can pick up this summer as a possible go to guy. With their current roster it is not hard to assume that whoever becomes the go-to guy, likely won't live up to the duties. Right now they are full of back-ups and "emerging" potential role players. Acquiring a new, and moniorly stable(doesn't have to be a star), go-to guy will let some of these others guys fall into a comfortable role. Haha! Of course, it's easy to be optimistic for better changes, cause it certainly would be hard to get worse.

..."minorly" stable... (my spelling skills far exceed my typing skills.)
