Tigers willing to move Porcello?

08:17 AM ET 06.22 | That Victor Martinez may return a little early would further bolster the Tigers confidence in their current roster. But they've got some serious decisions coming. In the next three weeks, the Tigers must determine right-hander Rick Porcello's maximum value. Is he at best a still frustratingly inconsistent No. 4 starter or a 23-year-old two-time 14-game winner -- with two more years under team contractual control -- who could attract immediate help if packaged in the right deal? ... [If] general manager Dave Dombrowski believes there's a realistic chance Turner could have a defined role in 2013, it could make Porcello more expendable -- if not now, then certainly during the off-season.

Uh...yeah. The guy has not been that great.

June 22, 2012  09:09 AM ET

Trade him to the Yankees for Phil Hughes. Change of scenery could benefit both young pitchers.

June 22, 2012  09:53 AM ET

Hughes has actually been doing pretty well.

Tigers should dump the pitching coach. He's done nothing to develop Porcello or any other pitcher, starter or reliver. Under his "guidence" Porcello has declined instead of improved. All starters, with the exception of Verlander, and the entire bullpen need help and they're not getting it. However, you can bet this wont happen with the likes of DUMBrowski running the show. Old Dave has made some of the worst trades in tiger history.Clean house Mike, starting with Dave,Leyland and the pitching coach.

I would have liked to know who Turner is. I know Martinez and Porcello are, but who is Turner? Is he righthanded, a pitcher, a catcher? Is he in AAA or AA ball, or already on the rooster? Another example of an editor not doing his job or the writer not proofreading.

One of the top pitching prospects in baseball.

I think it's too early to give up on Porcello. However, if the Tigers plan on keeping this horrendous defensive infield intact, then they should give him an opportunity elsewhere. He really hasn't been that bad -- just a few bad innings, and a lot of misfielded ground balls.

Dave D has had his fair share of bad trades (Jurrjeins for Renteria) and bad signins (Dontrell extension 3 years/$30 mill, Sheff 3 years $39 mill), but also some very good moves. The Cabrera trade was a GREAT trade, none of those prospects has panned out very well, only regular is Maybin who is decent, but nothing great. The Fister trade has worked out great!Benoit signing has panned out really well and so has the Valverde signing. Austin Jackson -Granderson trade has been good for both sides. As far as the pitching coach, Porcello is already on his 2nd coach. If you're are going to rip Jones for Porcello this season, don't you have to give him credit for Valverde in 2011, Benoit in 2011 & 2012. Bryan Villareal's development in 2012, Below's development in 2012.

Besides the Jurrjeins trade what "worst trades in tiger history" has he made?

Is Dave D the best? No, but he's been solid. Name me the best GM in baseball and I'm sure that GM has some bad trades on his resume too..... that's the nature of the business. My main gripe with DD is they haven't developed many good position players in the last 5-7 years with the exception of Avila.

trade Porcello for Adrian Gonzalez, since they don't seem to care how many slow 1st basemen they have - could put him at SS.

I think Porcello would do really well in the NL with a team that has a good infield defense... Cincy comes to mind. The AL is a bad fit for him and the Tigers infield defense is terrible.

Hughes would probably due better in Detroit with the bigger dimension at Comerica and in a weaker division hitting wise. Porcello would probably get crushed by the AL east bats.

June 22, 2012  12:12 PM ET

Trade him for Grienke. Would be good for both teams.

Problem with Greinke is he'll be a FA this winter so he would essentially be a rental. Tigers can't afford another $15 mill annual contract for 5 years.

Bingo.

Hang on to this guy, he needs to develop a little more!!!

YEa he made some bad trades, but as someone already said the jackson and cabrera trades have worked out good, and don't forget the polanco trade, remember what happened to Urbina?, I think he ended up in jail

June 22, 2012  06:17 PM ET

hang on to him and teach him how to pitch

tigers are mocking their division, i mean can't beat the small teams?? come on there are better ways to win games stop been so lousy passive team in the offensive mode,,,
