Pirates ready to deal pitching for punch

08:18 AM ET 06.22 | Both pitching, in the form of James McDonald, and hitting, in the form of nine runs, clicked Thursday for Pittsburgh -- though that hasn't been the case this season. The Bucs' hunt for reinforcements is on. And there don't seem to be any hidden agendas for a team with the National League's worst offense (according to runs scored) and its third-best pitching staff (per ERA). "We'd like to first look for ways to impact the offense," said manager Clint Hurdle, who has huddled this week with GM Neal Huntington to discuss possible moves. ... "We do have a couple of areas where we've got some surplus, some depth that might be attractive to somebody else." That is managerial code for swapping pitching for punch.

Been to Moab many times...you should feel fortunate to spend just one day in your life in as incredible a place as Moab.

Gateway to Arches National Park.

The Cubs should be the one trading with the Bucs. They sure help them in making the playoffs several years ago and also save Jim Henry job as well.

That's a clown question, bro.

The Pirates offense is coming around (5.1 runs/gm in June, good for top 5 in the NL or maybe MLB), the pitching is performing as it has all year, they are 4 games over .500 and only 2 games back in the division and 1 out in the wildcard. I don't see the need to reach for some stop-gap hitter when the Pirates have been winning with and because of their pitching depth. If some young up and coming hitter becomes available that is one thing, but someone like Youk or Soriano are not the answer.

No thanks... we got plenty of talent at the plate. No need to trade away good pitching for hitting. Ask the Braves how they made out with good pitching in the 90s. I can easily remember thier rotation, but thier lineup... not so much. Good pitching and defense still wins in any league. YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH GOOD PITCHING!!!!!!
