Cowboys, Cotton Bowl team to bid for national championship games

10:21 AM ET 06.23 | As much as AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic officials knew they needed something to alter the BCS status quo, even they are amazed at the potential changes in the landscape. "Even in our wildest imaginations, we weren't expecting this," bowl chairman Tommy Bain said. "But we are prepared for this and excited about this." The consensus BCS commissioners plan for a four-team playoff beginning in the 2014 season would change the system beyond recognition, if approved by the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee next Tuesday in Washington. Already, the process has produced winners and losers, with the Cotton Bowl squarely in the first category. The Cotton Bowl is especially well-positioned now with its partnership with the Cowboys and Cowboys Stadium to form a non-profit entity to bid on future national championship games. The partnership, Stadium Events Organizing Committee, came together last fall, a natural progression after the groups hosted marquee regular-season college games.

The BCS is replaced by the new 4 team system. There will not be a BCS championship game. They (the conference commisioners plus ND) haven't named the new system, but have said it won't be BCS.

Cotton Bowl (Jerry's World?) seems to have several opportunities. According to SI, the semi-finals will be rotated between 6 different bowl games. Cotton bowl seems like they could get into that rotation. Then there is the championship game itself. But the other opportunity is the SEC - Big 12 Champions Bowl. That game needs a home.

The Mountaineers will also be playing in states where the climate is hot and humidinstead of the cool fall temps of the northeast.

Not sure what you're reading. The same conference commissioners that run/own the BCS are the ones making the change to the 4 team playoff.

They're probably just mad because they will have to pony up a lot more $ with the new plan. The bowl games will be seperate bids, the semi-final bowl games will probably be another price over and above the regular bowl games, and of course the championship game will be even higher.

It would be fun to see a bidding war break out. It would be a battle royale between the Cowboy dude, the Nike dude and the oil dude. It would fun to watch.

At least change the name of the game. Would be such a shame to bastardize the namesake of such a historically glorious game and landmark old stadium by branding it with the "J" word.

Why not bid for it? Gotta fill up the Death Star somehow. Not like the Cowboys are going to be playing games then...

Funny ... but true.
The Cowboys are a average team with a couple of superstars that give fans hope. I lost hope when Jimmy left after Jerry's sophomoric power grab.
