Will Elway add 'owner' to Broncos duties?

09:09 AM ET 06.24 | In a quarterback-crazy league, there is big pressure for Broncomania to live up to the hype. If Peyton Manning fails to win half his games for the Broncos, he will get booed in Denver, probably by some fan wearing a No. 15 jersey. If the Broncos don't make it to the Super Bowl within the next three years, coach John Fox probably will get fired. But it's hard to see John Elway getting the ax. It's more likely he gets Pat Bowlen's big chair as the next owner of this franchise.

Elway has too many teeth ...

At least he's a football player, instead of a lawyer. It should be a requirement for any job in the league. Say a minimum three years in the league before you be a waterboy.

I agree that Elway will probably be the owner, Fox will be fired before three years if they don't make the playoffs. The Denver fans better get on their new horse number 18 and forgot about number 15 if they want to have a chance to get back to the big show.

No worries. That offense will have a complete turnaround this year, and Manning will continue to impress. I don't think they win the Super Bowl this year, but they will win one playoff game. . . And it won't be because of a lucky throw in overtime.

morning Otis, yeah, I messed that up, too early, not enough coffee, but you get my drift.

Broncos fans... help me out here. Does Bowlen plan on selling the team to protect his family from inheritance tax issues?

I guess I don't "get" why Elway would become a majority owner...

Well he did go to Stanford! He's supposed to be Smart.

It's only speculation. He doesn't have the cash. Besides, this came from Mike 'I am an idiot' Kiszla, who deeper in the article came up with the gem.

"If colleges really want to put students first, the welfare of players should be the top priority in every university's athletic budget."

I would think that if colleges really wanted to put students first, these overblown athletic programs would get less attention.

"I don't have that kind of experience to be able to pick those players day in and day out and such." John Elway (Wiki) Just the kind of owner that you need.

I think there is a problem with inheritance tax. Outside of the Broncos, the Bowlen's don't have a lot of assets. Another factor may be that there is no other member of the family involved in management of the team at all. If Pat is grooming some other family member to take over, it's being handled with all the secrecy as which Kim Il (fill in the blank) takes over in North Korea.

There shouldn't even *be* an inheritance tax. Most assets end up 'double' taxed or more once you reach probate.

How stupid is this comment?
75% of the players are bankrupt within 5 years of the end of their career.
And you want THEM to be in charge of the NFL?
