09:19 AM ET 06.24 | For the first time in Matt Ryan's NFL career he faces a major fundamental change in how the Falcons will operate on offense. New offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and Ryan have spent a lot of time together in order to make sure that they get on the same page with the new offensive attack. Some of the major differences in the passing attack will be more vertical routes with an emphasis on getting the ball to receivers on the move. Also, the team will implement a package heavy in screen passes. Koetter and Ryan's meetings have been fruitful.

What an idea, Shhhhhh....don't let the rest of the league know about this concept, they will try to copy it....

So, they didn't try any vertical routes last year, nor did they try to hit receivers in stride?

Likely not. He's efficient but he's not a flashy numbers kind of QB.
The Atlanta Falcons organization claimed the exact same thing last year after trading half their 2011 Draft to select the speedy Julio Jones.

I like this: "Koetter and Ryan's meetings have been fruitful." Yeah, and in the normal world people claim all their meetings are 'fruitful', too. Meetings be damned, it's execution that counts and we're months away from being able to evaluate the execution.

And with A.J. Green they should not have any passing problems, unless they can't get open. You're right, he's not 'flashy' but I'd rather have his type than a Manning type that drives me nuts with his act.

They have to be looking at their failures in play off games under Smith and realizing come January they need to drastically change.

They did have the unfortunate luck of being matched up against the eventual Super Bowl champs in their opening game of both those playoffs...
But those games were just plain ugly from Atlanta's perspective. And you gotta beat the team to be the team.

I'm not sure what Peyton Manning's act is...
But after Matt Ryan's offense got shutout in last year's playoffs, I'm not sure why anyone would want him over Peyton Manning's type.

Peyton Manning's act is going under center, then stepping out, walking all over with his gesturing, is what I meant. Matt Ryan's playoff stats aren't much accepted, but many QBs don't have it all together the first 3-4 years, Peyton Manning's first four years were a little up and down too, in fact the Falcons had a better record the first four years under Ryan than the Colts did under Manning.

This statement alone reaks of journalistic ambiguity.

I'm thinking that it will be Sanchez that will be the QB this year. I said it before, where I moved to now, AZ, and as a native NYer, Sanchez would be considered a football god if he played for the Cards :)

Dirk the D*** Koetter has a bad reputation, known as backstabbing his own players and only looking out for #1. At least that's what my A.S.U. sources tell me.
