Mystery illness lands Buchholz in hospital, on DL

08:20 AM ET 06.25 | Instead of pitching Sunday, Clay Buchholz woke up in the hospital. Because Buchholz had been ill for several days, the Red Sox [team stats] decided Saturday to scratch him from his start. But after he was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital and held overnight for observation, they put him on the 15-day disabled list. A source said the Red Sox aren't sure what caused the illness, but added that Buchholz' "stomach was all mixed up." A Channel 7 report indicated that Buchholz is dealing with intestinal bleeding, possibly caused by taking too much anti-inflammatory medication, like ibuprofen. The Red Sox are hopeful Buchholz won't have to miss more than two weeks.
