08:03 AM ET 06.26 | At 5-foot-9, Nick Taylor didn't shape up as a basketball player, either, but he played point guard at Florida International. Now Taylor is attempting to master a new type of crossover -- from college basketball point guard to NFL cornerback. ... [Taylor] received little interest from NFL teams until his workout at FIU's March Pro Day on March 15. His 4.27 and 4.33 times in the 40-yard dash turned heads. The next morning, the Vikings scheduled a private workout, and by nightfall Taylor had a three-year, nonguaranteed contract. Until then, his claim to fame had been winning $25,000 in an NBA2K video game tournament in Las Vegas last year. "I think they saw a lot more potential in me than just my speed," he said.

What better qualification for obtaining a tryout with a NFL team than winning a video game competition.

There are a few FN members that should take note of this achievement...

That's funny, Otis.

I have to wonder what the Vikings intentions are. I don't want to beLITTLE this guy, but at 5'9" for a CB, unless he has a hell of a vertical jump, he'll be nothing more than a target. With that speed and size, maybe a kick/punt return specialist.

I know he was only a point guard but I'm willing to bet he's got a pretty good vertical.

Vikings may have a diamond in the rough then. Even if they don't, it's a three year, non-guaranteed contract.

If the Vikings can win a video game competition, though....

...it will be about the only thing they've got to be proud of.

Other than fleecing the taxpayers out of money for their new stadium, of course.

Don't know if he can "crack " the vikings, but at 165lb. he could experience many cracks trying to tackle somebody.

Desean Jackson is one of the league's most dynamic players and he is listed at 5'10", 175. Also, ss a point guard, I'm guessing Taylor has ridiculous agility. I'll be watching this young man.

Except a WR tries to avoid contact, a CB has to make it his goal on many occasions. Jackson may be "dynamic" but his arms get very short the few times he goes over the middle.

Antoine Winfield is 5' 9" and a 3 time pro bowler.

And, not to take away from their talent, but you can't expect two 5'9" guys to take on a decent WR tandem.
