Arrest hasn't bumped Rees from QB competition

08:23 AM ET 06.26 | Notre Dame's Tommy Rees is back in South Bend, attending summer school classes, working out with his teammates and, likely, seeking a return to relative normalcy. The junior's May 3 arrest and subsequent four misdemeanor charges haven't gone away, but they haven't kept him from doing everything necessary to keep himself in the four-man quarterback competition, either. That doesn't mean there won't be football-related ramifications down the line. On the legal side, the 20-year-old Lake Forest, Ill., product has a status hearing in St. Joseph County court July 17 to address two counts of resisting arrest and one count each of underage drinking and battery.

THIS could not have happened! ND is not in the SEC and we all know only the SEC has football players that get in to trouble & are still allowed to play football. Everywhere else, integrity insists of immediate removal of said player!

Yea....but Mr Kelly don't care if you get in trouble....hell he got a kid killed at practice.

Even the kid's parents acknowledged it was an accident and don't hold the university responsible. Rees however is another matter and I hope Kelly does address it. If not, he is no better than all the "enabler" coaches in the SEC and elsewhere.

Gariboy, what do you mean by an "enabler" coach in the SEC. What school did you attend to be such an expert on the SEC. Oh, Yeah, one of those loser, huh.

Is this guy the same one that was not man enough to compete in the SEC? Certainly he will get suspended. Or does ND have such standards that if one plays football all is well no matter what one does. Seems other QBs at ND have had a drinking problem. What up?

Too bad Floyd is gone. Two drunks playing catch would have made for some good jokes.

I have re-read your comments a few times and still do not understand them. Maybe you were typing quickly but what does "Oh, Yeah, one of those loser, huh" mean. I am serious, I don't get your point.

Michael Floyd was stripped of his captaincy and did numerous hours of community service to pay for his mistake(s). He went on to become an All American last year, graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree and become a first round pick (13th selected) in the NFL draft. Boy are you right, what a loser...!!!

You can be a drunk and not a loser. Logic fail on your part.

My point was that his "drunk"days appear to be in his past but people like you (and many of the other anti ND element) believe that his prior transgressions with alcohol merit a "life sentence." I disagree based on his actions in the past year. Where does "logic fail" in that point...?
