Auburn missed all kinds of red flags

08:24 AM ET 06.26 | Auburn's Zeke Pike, perhaps for the best, is headed home for the summer. Before patting Gene Chizik on the back for (choose one) sending Pike home or allowing him to go home, a question seems in order. Given what we knew about Pike before he got to Auburn, why did Chizik sign him in the first place? Pike managed to achieve a rare double during his senior year at Dixie Heights High School in northern Kentucky. He was suspended for the first and last games of his final high school season. ... [If his decision-making weren't already in question], Pike spent part of last summer engaged in a Twitter war with some Alabama fans. Those exchanges included Pike tweeting that he hated Alabama. How many more red flags did Auburn need?

Sending tweets about a rival school is a red flag? That eliminates about 98% of the recruits out there.

It was a little more than that.

Have not followed, did he send death threats or something?

No, but it was a little more than just "I dislike Alabama". He got into downright wars with people on twitter, moreso than anyone I have ever seen.

And that is grounds for booting from a team? Did the staff tell him to stop and he kept going?

Well, let me just state the Bama fans weren't guiltless...
Now, as to whether that os why he would be booted off the team.... I think it is more of a pattern as the article indicates. He was suspended from his HS team for two games, he was just caught for public intoxication which also means underage drinking, and then the twitter war. Now, in addition to that, it may have been his decision to go home.
The article is only raising there might be questions about his maturity/attitude.

Makes sense. Loose cannon type overall, not just in cyberspace.

Blinn College called, they want this kid's cell number. They think they have some experience in this kind of situation.

You know how that is. A guy responds to a insulting type tweet and they just see the chum in the water and it becomes a feeding frenzy and he didn't help matters by responding to them. We had fans get into it with Tyranne Matthieu as well. Because Tyranne will respond.
