Does Hoyer want out of New England?

08:03 AM ET 06.27 | The Patriots, obviously set with Tom Brady as their starter, may have a more intriguing storyline when it comes to backup Brian Hoyer. The Patriots are at an interesting spot with Hoyer, who unsuccessfully tried to find a team to pluck him out of restricted free agency this offseason, according to a source. But with Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn on the open market and Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III in the draft, there was no market for Hoyer. ... The chance exists that a job could open up this summer or before the trading deadline if a starting quarterback goes down elsewhere with an injury. Naturally, the Patriots should expect to field some calls about Hoyer and Mallett in that type of scenario.

The Patriots aren't a team that floats trade rumors. I'm thinking this is bogus.

The Pats could get Andy Reid to deal him for them, that guy could sell shoes to a legless man

The Seahawks will take him. Sign him to a multimillion dollar contract, then let him hold another clip board while watching the smooth QB moves of T-Jack.

How does Hoyer get to prove his value if he never gets a chance to play?

I saw him throw a really nice sideline pass once.
He's a serviceable backup, that's all, and I don't see him ever being more than that.
Any team looking for the next Matt Cassel would do well to look at Brian Hoyer.

He's better than some of the stiffs that are starters.

Other than the knee a few years back, Brady has been an iron man. He's had some nagging injuries, but nothing that sidelined him.
Mallet is the future, which is why Hoyer would like to try his luck elsewhere.

The Herald must needed to take up some space in their sports section. If nobody wanted him as a free agent why would any team want to trade for him now. Here your sign.

Right here. The Pats won't trade Mallett unless someone blows their socks off, Belichick has said he had Mallett rated as a top of the 1st round guy, so he's holding him close in case Brady's play drastically falls off or decides to hang it up over the next few years. I don't blame Hoyer for wanting out now, decent chance Mallett beats him out for the #2 job this year.

Maybe they should see if Andy Reid would take on a side job to market Hoyer.

I don't think so. When this guy popped up on the Patriots roster, I was like who is that? Being a Notre Dame fan I watch them play the Spartans every year, I remember Drew Stanton and then Kirk Cousins, Hoyer left no impression on me, even though I would have seen him play.
