O's on the hunt for veteran outfielder

08:10 AM ET 06.27 | The Orioles' recent struggles at the plate may be more about a season-long issue than the ebbs and flows of the 162-game grind. It's not really a two-week thing. The Orioles have six regulars who are on pace to strike out more than 100 times, which pretty much explains why they have trouble sustaining a rally. ... The front office is aware of that and is believed to be trying hard to acquire a solid veteran outfielder who makes consistent contact and hits well with runners on base. Easier said than done, of course, but it's something that has to happen fairly soon if the Orioles are to keep the first-place Yankees in sight and stay in play for a late wild card run.

Change of scenery would do him good....you know if Boston moves him the recipient team is almost guaranteed 30 HRS...100 RBI's ...300 AVG. ...along with stellar outfielder defense....which is what Boston thought they were getting......until that whole Boston atmosphere dragged him down .....

Soriano is another high strikeout player...not exactly what the O's need. Mark Derosa from the Nats would be a better pick. He hasn't hit well this year, but he hasn't played consistently either. He consistently puts the ball in play and he will walk.

If the price is right (pitching talent), the Twins should trade Denard Span.

The O's need to stay on the same page they are on now. It is great for their fans for hope but why give up some future for a rental player with hardly a chance to make the playoffs this year.

The Royals could move Jeff Francoeur. He has a rocket for an arm and guns a lot of guys out at the plate. His bat isn't terrible and he normally does well the second part of the season. Right now, the Royals don't have one pitcher on their staff that's guaranteed to be in their rotation for next year. Their starting pitching is just that bad. I'm not sure what the Orioles could offer, but Francoeur would be a good get, especially since he's under contract through next year. The Royals have top prospect Wil Meyers tearing up the minors. He's just waiting for a chance to play.
