08:03 AM ET 06.28 | Cam Newton took the occasion of a Wednesday radio appearance to discuss his rookie season in Carolina, one that impressed so many. On him being too hard on himself last year: "I think it was something that the media just took it and ran with it, but that was just me being a critic of myself. ... [If] people only knew how I think about myself and what I want from myself, that doesn't even bother me. And if you're a competitor, you shouldn't let things like that bother you. But I think the things that I'm expecting for not only myself but this team this year is gonna be through the roof. And it's up to myself starting to make myself accountable and the players on this team to make it all happen."

I think we learned two things about them last year:

Cam Newton is for real.

The Carolina Panthers are not.

June 28, 2012  08:24 AM ET

The Panthers are the Tim Tebow of the NFL: a one hit wonder.

Might as well be sitting at the bar.

It must suck to be the best College player in the country, and get drafted by the worst team in the NFL....

It probably sucks more to be the worst college player in the country and get drafted by the local Department of Water and Sewers.

Carolina isn't the worst team in the NFL. That honor has got to go to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But Blaine Gabbert wasn't the best college player in the country. Not by a long shot.

Totally agree. My point is Carolina wasn't the worst team in the NFL before they got Cam Newton and they still aren't the worst.

Not even close! There are 2 teams in Florida that are much worse.

It will be interesting to see whether he picks up where he left off or falls victim to the dreaded sophomore slump.

QUOTE(#11):

You can't honestly think that... They lost their best defensive players withing the first 3 weeks of the season for the year... I expect them to at least challenge for a playoff spot this year.

They finished 6-10. I think they're more than a few defenders away from being contenders.

Still, the Falcons remain a soft playoff team, and who knows what the Saints will do, so anybody could take the NFC South.

That's right. There are 3 teams in Florida that are much worse!

A new bar? Is Cam buying?

June 28, 2012  09:45 AM ET

Hold on Cam great reading for your fans, but there are still to many good teams ahead of the Panthers.

June 28, 2012  09:54 AM ET

Unfortunately for Cam teams have had a year to figure him out so his running part of the game won't be as effective and like college, with the game on the line he keeps the ball pretty much, so I for one think this year bill be less than last.

I doubted the young man last year and he proved me wrong.

I won't make that mistake again.
