08:10 AM ET 06.28 | Even while making a name for himself as a Duke freshman, Austin Rivers never hid the fact that the NBA loomed large on his horizon. Doc and Austin have said repeatedly that Rivers grew up wanting to play for the Knicks or the Celtics or the Hawks, not necessarily the Blue Devils. ... With his big moment almost upon him, Rivers said he's finding it hard to sleep. In a matter of months, he'll be sharing the court with the likes of LeBron James, Kevin Garnett and his idol, Kobe Bryant. "My whole point of going to the NBA is because I want to compete at this level," he said Wednesday. "I love the game of basketball. This is what I've been doing since I was 6 years old. So my goal was to play at the highest level and compete at the highest level.

If the NBA was his dream, he should have prepared for it a little better. I don't think he's ready yet.....then again few are.

I guess if Doc thought the same thing he would have advised him to stay in school.

Apparently you don't have kids. Have you ever tried to talk a 19 year old out of doing something he really wanted to do?

If Orlando makes that trade with Houston for all those picks I expect them to take Austin in one of them and I wouldnt doubt that they play him as a PG, maybe not as a started but definately he will get minutes running the point, I dont think Orlando is too big on Nelson anyways...

Hes only 19...how mature were you at 19? I know i wasnt...he'll be fine. Its not like he doesnt have the proper guidance. You can do a lot worse than having Doc Rivers as ur Dad. Not like he is one of Shawn Kemp's kids or somethin..LOL

Did Coach K or some of his teammates come out and say this kid is immature or something?
I'll take a player who has played well against the highest competition on each level he has played on over someone who has a lot of "potential". Rivers will be a good pick for whichever team takes him, wherever they take him in the draft.

Connections to both Duke and the Celtics. Why is he not despised as much as Laettner was?

Bad example; JR Smiths' problem isn't on the court. If Rivers is half the player Smith is, he'll be fine. He isn't
