08:13 AM ET 06.28 | For some time now, Pau Gasol's name seems to be a magnet attached to speculation about what the Lakers might do this offseason. The Atlanta Hawks have aggressively tried to trade power forward Josh Smith to the Lakers for [Gasol], initially expressing interest in Gasol shortly after Oklahoma City eliminated the Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals, The Times has learned. Smith has been unhappy in Atlanta for more than a year ... In separate activity leading up to Thursday's amateur draft, the Lakers are also open to trading Gasol to a team with a high first-round pick because they covet Kentucky freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Atlanta holds the 23rd pick and cannot help in that area.

This may be the best news concerning Gasol and a trade rumor since the beginning of last season. The trade if it happens will help both teams; Josh Smith definitely need a new scenery and Gasol will benefit also in that he also need a new scenery. Why haven't this trade happened yet?

Who plays C for ATL if they give up Zaza in the deal? Horford wants to play PF and Gasol wants to play a fwd spot, Gasol I would doubt would want to play the C position for the Hawks...
