Lincecum ... cured?

08:15 AM ET 06.28 | Good news comes to Bay Area baseball fans in the form of Tim Lincecum's second consecutive strong start. This could be the end of nearly three months of steadily increasing panic over Lincecum. ... Now, at least to those of us who specialize in conclusion-jumping and dramatic overreaction, Lincecum is cured. Baseball's greatest reclamation project is a success. But is it that simple? Let's ask the man himself. "The way most people like to say it, it's like a light switch that comes on," Lincecum said. "I say it's more of a dial light (he pantomimed twisting a light-dimmer knob). It's a gradual process." He continued with the electrical theme. "A light went on the other day (against the A's)."

How can you not have the light on all of the time with the money you are making and contract time looms.

I guess this is no different than when a hitter is in a slump and goes 3 for 4 and everyone says he's broken out even though the next game he goes 0 for 4.

Getting into and maintaining the "zone" is subconscious -- it's very difficult for anyone in any profession to maintain it 100% of the time. Take Josh Hamilton for instance: he's under-performing in June after his monster start and last night against the Tigers simply looks lost at the plate. Next month, he'll probably return to beast mode.
Money doesn't directly correlate to performance, though we'd like to see equivalent performance for compensation received.

I was at the game yesterday. Tim looked like his old self. The Giants are now back in first place and it does not look like any NL West team will challenge them. The only real obstacle standing in the Giants path to the pennant is the Nationals, and that team is to young to handle the pressure of an NLCS.

Everyone wanted to bury Tim and his mechanics a few weeks ago. The rumors of his demise may have been premature.

Wow, what a stretch. They managed to TIE the Dodgers while almost their entire offense was on the DL along with Lilly. Most of those guys will be back for the second half so we'll see. But I wouldn't bet on the fat panda, Posey, and Cain getting it done.
