Big Ten a big loser in playoff scenario

08:23 AM ET 06.28 | Once the music stops on the celebration that built a playoff system, some administrators may just wake up wondering what they've done. The strongest yells will come from [the Midwest], because the Big Ten and Notre Dame are the biggest losers in this reconfiguration. An actual playoff rewarding performance more than personality effectively places a tombstone on Midwestern football relevance. ... Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany professed satisfaction with how his conference fared in the final negotiation. It was an Emmy-worthy performance. The Big Ten got pushed down to the kids' table. All its playoff-model preferences and formulations were shot down save one -- a "geographically balanced" selection committee.

i have an idea for the big 10, play your non confrence in the middle of the season when it starts getting cold and see how the SEC boys handle snow.

IMHO the B1G isn't as bad as some think they are...and they are not as good as they think they are. Truth is somewhere in the middle.

"...because the Big Ten and Notre Dame are the biggest losers in this reconfiguration. An actual playoff rewarding performance more than personality effectively places a tombstone on Midwestern football relevance."
What exactly are they saying here? That B1G football is less talented and a 4 team playoff will expose it? That they have more "personality" than other schools? That Midwestern football is the the most fun to watch?

for the most part yea. i know mich plays ala, osu played miami, tx and usc twice each, and msu has boise in the future. other then that.....................? i would still be nice to see any of the good sec teams in snow for once. i mean full blown snow.

Michigan opens with Alabama (in Dallas). Penn St goes to Virginia (ACC). Most of the rest of their non-conference games are restricted to the Pac-12 (and a few vs. Notre Dame).

Almost forgot - Boise St @ Michigan St (another opener). Big Ten discourages late season OoC games.

I think it means they have gotten by on reputation instead of performance for a good while now.

That's what I thought.
Never thought I would hear someone from that region actually say it

THIS X 1,000!
You're ok....it's gonna be OK, just build teams that can win all their games (12-0, 11-1) and I promise you the B1G will not be left out of the playoff as proposed.
I see yrs when B1G will get 2 teams in....won't happen as often as it does in the SEC, but B1G, Big XII and 12-Pac will have yeards they get 2 in and will be glad it's not conf champs only.

Ill disagree with the piece in the sense that you cant kill whats already dead, tOSU gettin mudholed 2 strait years pretty much ruined the big tens rep as far as the NCG. and Scony losing in 2 strait rose bowls to 2 crud teams sure dont help it either.

Don't think the article is at all accurate. A 13-0 B1G team with a CC will be one of the 4 playoff teams. Period.
If you have a loss or two you deserve nothing-any playoff bid should be viewed as pure gravy.

TCU was the best team in the country 2 years ago. Oregon last year wasn't bad either.
