Carle's next stop?

08:25 AM ET 06.28 | Dennis Wideman became a very wealthy man on Wednesday, further proof that this is a good year to be a defenseman ready to hit the open market. I would not have predicted months ago that Matt Carle would be headed to free agency, but that's indeed going to be the case. A source told ESPN.com Wednesday that the Flyers know the pending UFA blueliner will head to market Sunday while very much keeping his current team in the mix. Notice a trend here? That's what Ryan Suter has decided to do, and likely Jason Garrison as well. The Flyers remain very much interested in retaining Carle's services, so all is not lost. But it appears fairly certain that Carle, a terrific puck mover and offensive blueliner, will at least take a peek out there come Sunday.

(eh, his picture's in the article for no reason. Might as well give him a shoutout.)

Was thinking the same thing

Carle jumped for joy when the Wideman deal went down over at Toronto West. Imagine how Suter was feeling (eh, his picture's in the article for no reason. Might as well give him a shoutout.)

you would think they would have at least put Carle's pic up.....Suter's last promo pic as a pred? I think so....again, July 1 will bring a lot of interesting threads...

Let him go... tie Walker to him when he leaves...

Flyers would need to get a D-man who can move the puck -- who would you suggest if they let Carle get away

They've won a Cup in the past 25 years so you can't call them Toronto West...

Du-shay maybe? Would they catch that?

I predict Matt Carle signs with the Red Wings.

Exactly why I love when guys are like "ohhhh get rid of him he sucks!".Because the Flyers D situation would be SO much better if Carle wasn't there. Luke Schenn ain't moving the damn puck out of your zone, and Boston was so desperate for a puck-moving d-man two years ago they traded a pretty big stash for Tomas freakin Kaberle. I think Philly's smart enough to see this and they get a deal done July 1.

Agreed

Marc-Andre Bourdon is looking pretty good in that area. But I hope, and think they will, keep Carle. Holmgren has said a couple times recently that this is a priority.

A team needs a D-man on each line that can move the puck a little bit. The Flyers have an erratic Coburn, an aging Timmonen and an unproven Bourdon? I think Carle has a place on the team. For their own good, I hope they resign him

Love how x Leafs become bums once they get traded. Wasn't Kaberle the second coming of Bobby Orr when he played for Toronto?

They also have Schenn now so we'll see what he can do.

He's out of Toronto so my guess he turns into a superstar. Not even jokin!
