08:26 AM ET 06.28 | Justin Schultz won't be trading his Wisconsin red-and-white for Detroit's red-and-white. The agent for Schultz confirmed to general manager Ken Holland Wednesday that Detroit was not one of the teams on Schultz' short list. About five or six teams will reportedly meet with Schultz, a coveted free agent, in Toronto the next couple of days. Schultz, 22 on July 6, was drafted by Anaheim in 2008 but didn't sign, and became an unrestricted free agent early this week. He has been meeting with his agents the last two days. "I was told we are not on his list of teams," Holland said. "We expressed our interest to his agent (Don Meehan). They went over all the information today (Wednesday)."

He's already home.

all we have heard is Wings and how all FAs would be suiting up in Hockey Town....this could get interesting.......

They can salve their hurt feelings by realizing they can get Jagr. They's gots casinos in the Motor City you know. Jaromir is on the way!

He is looking to stay in Canada by the sounds of it... rule out Toronto because Burke only goes after Americans.

June 28, 2012  09:20 AM ET

I wonder if this will have a ripple effect in Detroit's ability to sign the remaining FA's?

The Kid probably wants to play in front of a reliable goalie...be interesting to see that list.

He just drafted Morgan Rielly. And he made Celine his captain after trading for him.

But...well...yeah, pretty much.

I'm more wondering what this kid is going to get pay-wise. If he has high demands, do teams want to invest in such an unknown and risk not being able to pay the premier guys out there what they want.

He gets the entry level rookie contract no matter who he signs with.

June 28, 2012  09:46 AM ET

but hold the phone a minute...didn't T&R break the story that The Wings were all in for this kid?

June 28, 2012  09:48 AM ET

Flames and Oilers are both making offers....if the Flames try to out bid the Oilers they will quickly lose due to cap room.

Correct. So in essence he is no more of a risk than anyone else who was or has been drafted. I went to a school in the WCHA and have seen him play a few times and he is very good. Of course, it doesnt always translate. But again, little risk considering its an entry level contract. My guess would be Edmonton as he seems like a great fit with what they are building up there.

I read where the Canucks will not be bringing back defensemen Aaron Rome or Marc-Andre Gragnani, so it looks like they could be making room for some fresh blood on the blueline.

Indeed. And he is from BC as well so there is that.

That's possible...but how much ice-time would they give the kid?
I don't think Edmonton really needs any more 'kids' in their line-up.
Maybe the kid has been taking french lessons...Montreal anyone?

Sign him Burkie.

Nothing to lose.

He will never sign in Deadmonton. Worst hockey city outside of Winterpeg.

June 28, 2012  10:10 AM ET

Why wouldn't he want to play for the Red Wings? He isn't going to find many organizations better than that one.

He is probably looking to sign...as all dollars are the same, where he will actually play Phantom.
