Neinas: Irish alone in adding value

08:24 AM ET 06.28 | It has been assumed for some time that the Big 12 has looked into adding Notre Dame to the conference. Now there's proof. In a January memo to the Big 12 expansion committee, interim commissioner Chuck Neinas said Notre Dame is the only school the Big 12 could add that would "enhance the Big 12 value for television." The memo, obtained by The Oklahoman through an Open Records request, was sent to the committee as an agenda for a late January teleconference. The expansion committee is made up of Oklahoma State president Burns Hargis, Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione, Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds and Kansas State president Kirk Shulz.

The memo is actually dated before there was any real indication that FSU would be a potential target. The ACC's new contract is what motivated FSU to start thinking about looking elsewhere.
I imagine things would be phrased differently now.

ND and FSU are the 2 adds I'd want at this point ... but I'm very tired of the realignment craze. Regional rivalries, part of what makes CFB special, are becoming a thing of the past.
A&M fans are now faced with lots of travel ... same fot WVU fans ... and the same would be true for FSU and ND fans if they came to the Big 12.

Fan travel yeah but travel for the team in FB is a non issue IMHO. Only go every other year. Now the other sports, that's an issue.

And that is unfortunate. I am tempted to agree with those who do not want FSU to leave the ACC without 1+ regional partners. A ND/FSU pairing would be attractive, no doubt, but would that conference be a great fit for FSU long term? I would like to see a SE pod with FSU, Clemson, GT, maybe UM. But the B12 doesn't seem willing to go past 12 right now.
