Why the Oilers picked Krueger

08:30 AM ET 06.28 | Many thought the Oilers were interested in culture change when Tom Renney departed, something that, on the surface, doesn't square with promoting Ralph Krueger. But the Oilers are convinced Krueger in the pilot's seat will be different enough than Krueger in the co-pilot's chair. And that his experience, most of it in Europe and notably with the Swiss national team program, will stand him in good stead, to say nothing of his intimate knowledge of the current Oilers. The 52-year-old Krueger is regarded as a very direct in his approach, a good communicator, one with sound technical knowledge and he even had the endorsement of Renney, who told the Oilers on his way out the door that Krueger would be the best man for the job.

Tambellini's useless. He hired Pat Quinn. Then he hired Tom Renney to "Co-coach" with Pat Quinn, which was totally ferked. Then he fired Tom Renney because he didn't like the direction the team was taking, and hires his left hand man. Not to mention he goes out and drafts another star forward rather than working out a deal for a D-man and goaltender that his team desperately needs in order to ACTUALLY progress and stop putting a mountain of pressure on his young, developing team.
Meanwhile, Dustin Penner has a ring.

So let me get this straight...Renny says that Krueger is that best man for the job on his way out the door...and the Oil listen to him. So does that mean that Renney wasn't listening to him when he was his best assistant...evident by where the Oil finished the season?

Agreed on most counts. I do not think they need a Goalie. DD had very good numbers in the last third, particularly when you consider the complete lack of D- man support he had.
Krueger was sitting there right after the firing of Renney. I f they knew he was it , why did they go through all the waste of time ?? Krueger must feel like the "thyroid challenged" lass who gets hit on at 2 am in the pub
