Vikes trying to save AP from himself?

08:09 AM ET 06.29 | While Adrian Peterson believes he can start the 2012 opener, some suggest he open on the PUP list. By doing so, the team would effectively be protecting Peterson from himself. By all accounts, AP is a freak of nature, and he's ahead of schedule in his recovery from the torn ACL he suffered late last year. He's such a fierce competitor, it wouldn't shock anyone to see him suit up in Week 1. But what if he's not fully healed? ... It's a sticky situation, for the sole reason that doing what's best for the organization in the long haul (i.e. giving Peterson a mandatory 6-game vacation at the beginning of the season) would be an admission that the team doesn't have realistic intentions of fielding a competitive team in 2012.

The Star Tribune may be on to something here... I'll be watching.

Understatement of the year. The fans don't have realistic expectations of their fielding a competitive team, either.

Only one division game in the first 6 weeks. Not that it matters. This sorry bunch is in contention for the number 1 draft pick in 2013.

Are you saying they'll be spending more time watching USC games than planning their own?

I don't think any admission is necessary. Their play on the field will speak to that.

There will be a few Florida teams challenging the Vikings for the #1 pick in the 2013 draft. My money is on Jacksonville.

Fantasy football players across the country are hoping the Vikings don't put him on the PUP list.

If there halfway intelligent, fantasy football players shouldn't be planning on drafting AP in the 1st rounds of their drafts.
