A.J. getting last laugh on Yanks

08:22 AM ET 06.29 | Suddenly, the Yankees pitching staff is hurting while A.J. Burnett has become an ace in Pittsburgh. Burnett has become the pitcher the Yankees thought they were getting when they signed him to that five-year, $82.5 million deal. The day after the Yankees lost two huge pieces of their rotation -- CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte -- Burnett upped his record to 9-2 [Thursday] with Pittsburgh's 5-4 win over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. The victory was Burnett's eighth straight, something no Pirates pitcher had done since [1974]. ... Burnett turned the page on the Yankees -- who are paying $20 million of the $33 million Burnett is owed this season and next -- in spring training and has been moving forward ever since.

He certainly was a train wreck while in NY.

There are no such things as big games for the Pirates, so how is it that they have an "Ace"? Burnett ably demonstrated his inability to win under pressure. Notwithstanding his recent success in games n May and June, everyone knows he could never be relied upon to win the big ones in September and October.

A.J is pitching in Pittsburgh....so how does he have the "last laugh" again?

He's still getting paid?

Because right now the Pirates are a game out of 1st and have been playing good ball all year. I'm not saying that will continue but it is nice to see.

QUOTE(#8):

He's doing quite well in AAAA ball (i.e. Pirates, Royals, etc.), no pressure and in a small market where he's not under the microscope. That being said, he'll get to play golf a week earlier than the Yankees who should make it past the first round of the playoffs and then bow out.

Well, he did go to Philly and beat them last week.

Oh, I see about the AAAA opposition.

He's pitching like it's a contract year.

The one thing about Burnett is that he's been extremely efficient. He hasn't thrown more than 107 pitches in any outing, yet averages 6 1/3 innings per outing.

He had one really bad outing that kinda skews that, but the Pirates are being very strict about his pitch count.

Since May 8th, his really bad start, he's thrown between 93-107 pitches in every outing.

The NY post doesn't understand that AJ cracks under pressure. Pittsburgh has low expectations for their baseball team.

They'll downgrade them after the All Star break when they start their annual slide. Wouldn't it be funny if AJ pitches in the All Star game and strikes out a few Yanks.

ALERTS TO FINANCIAL AND MILITARY THREATS IN 2012 EUROPE

By John Cleese (British writer, actor and tall person):

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria
and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to
"Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to
"Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not
been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran
out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody
Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning
level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get
the ****." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they
have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror
alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France
are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent
fire that destroyed France 's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing
the country's military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly"
to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective
Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance"
to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher
levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose."

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat
they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy.
These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish
navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Australia , meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to
"She'll be alright, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I
think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is
cancelled." So far no situation has ever
warranted use of the last final escalation level.

A final thought -" Greece is collapsing, the Iranians are getting
aggressive, and Rome is in disarray. Welcome back to 430 BC."

I made some new friends over in the Nascar thread. They've invited me down to TN to meet their cousin.
