Nash unlikely to set with Suns

08:14 AM ET 06.30 | Eight years after then-Suns executive Rex Chapman showed up at Steve Nash's door when free agency opened at midnight, the door appears to be closing on Nash's illustrious tenure in Phoenix. Nash had a desire to remain -- and retire -- with the Suns but the interest in the 38-year-old point guard is stronger elsewhere as free-agency negotiations open at 9 p.m. Phoenix time Saturday night. Toronto, Brooklyn and Dallas are prepared to offer contracts with more money or years -- or both -- than Phoenix. Dallas' and Brooklyn's interest hinges on free agent point guard Deron Williams' choice between the two franchises, but New York also is a player for Nash, who stays in Manhattan during the summer.

Decisions, decisions. Phoenix, Dallas and Brooklyn aren't going to win a title in Nash's last days. Toronto is home, or does he take a monster a paycut for a Miami Heat Championship ring? Vanessa's ring didn't cost that much!

Decisions, decisions!

Miami would be a good fit for him.

Nash is one of my favorite players and I hate to see him go. I would have no problem with him chasing a ring, but Brooklyn isn't going anywhere with or without Deron Williams--Dallas didn't want to pay him in his prime. Why would they want him now? And Toronto......no comment.

QUOTE(#5):

If New York is smart, they offer Melo to Phoenix in exchange for Nash and a mid-sized role player (to take Melo's place). Phoenix does a sign-and-trade with Nash to make the deal work. They get a premier point guard and get Melo off the books. Makes sense financially as well as helps team chemistry. The Suns, on the other hand, get a star playmaker who can help revive the franchise.

Isn't Nash an unrestricted free agent? A team signing Nash wouldn't have to pay Phoenix anything.

and Dallas realizes its past mistake in letting Nash go.

Dallas realizes they worked years towards a title, and they won one. Nobody in Phoenix did, or will, do likewise.

QUOTE(#13):

Nash is clearly not concerned with winning.......he's interested in the NBA 'life' partying on the road, playing offense without a care in the world about winning............or else- why in the world would he have re-signed with phoenix a couple years ago?All the teams he is 'reported' to go to are not going to win a ringtoronto? phoenix? come on- I have no problem with him enjoying his final years-but PLEASE no one have 'pity' for him.....and please do not say that he 'deserves' a ring- cause he doesn'the's made his own choices, which have been completely ANTI winning

Nash has always said he puts very little stock into having a ring as being the biggest barometer of a career. He's easily one of the three best 5's to ever play, and that won't change whether he gets a ring at age 38+ or not. His choices have been ANTI-winning? The Suns had Stoudemire and Marion when he went back; they became the #1 seed in the West. The next year they lost Stoudemire to injury. They finished second in the West. During his time in Dallas, he went to the West finals as part of a "big three". Tell me where these ANTI-winning decisions came into play?
