Emails: Paterno told Penn State to keep quiet about Sandusky

09:20 AM ET 06.30 | Newly uncovered emails in the Jerry Sandusky case show that Penn State officials were on the verge of blowing the whistle on him -- but changed their minds after talking to coach Joe Paterno. The missives, obtained by CNN, seemingly contradict the late Paterno's claim that he alerted higher-ups to a report of Sandusky showering with a boy and had nothing to do with the matter after that. They could also spell trouble for a trio of university bigwigs: Athletic Director Tom Curley and Senior Vice President Gary Schultz, who have been charged with perjury, and former college president Graham Spanier, who was forced to resign after the scandal broke.

I come to a sports site to get away from stuff like this. The Sandusky crimes are in the courts' hands now and I really don't care to read about every alleged "scoop" a journalist digs up.

This stuff belongs over at CNN.

This absolutely needs to be here. This is just one indication of how corrupt college athletics and the NCAA are.

Dead men tell no tales. Paterno's beyond the reach of law, but not the court of public opinion.

You're right, "Dead men tell no tales ", but past emails do.

I have been saying this for quite a while now, Joe knew what kind of a person Sandusky was. Pretty hard to work with the man for 20/30 years and don't know what the guy was doing. IMO, Joe passed away with quite a bit of guilt.

This email doesn't say that Joe told them anything. What a garbage article.

You should be ashamed for writing this and spreading hate.

LMFAO, why do you call this hate???? If the emails exist then it's a fact, not hate!!!!

The Emails "COULD" tell us, quite a bit about what Joe knew and what Joe told the higher ups.

Yes and the real facts will come out in a court of law ... as opposed to the manufactured facts that come out in the papers. Hence my earlier comment - put it over on CNN.

Dr, actually I agree, I think this is the wrong place for this article, as it should be on CNN, but it is on FN and we will have to deal with it. :-)

Like we don't already know this???

+1.

More evidence of the ugly underbelly of NCAA athletics is what I'd classify as nothing more than "piling on" at this point.

No. Nothing could happen in that building without his knowing.

I hope this costs PSU billions for the coverup. Since it appears they were more worried about the image of the university, the legacy of their coach and threat of lawsuits, this may hurt them more than jail time or death.

Get pissed the more I think about how many psu supporters on here said it was only one ex coach and no one else knew.

As Willie said..."Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury C??sar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones. "
