09:27 AM ET 06.30 | Chris Carpenter returned from Dallas on Thursday afternoon. Friday he returned to a bullpen mound for the first time since experiencing a temporary setback in his recovery from nerve-related shoulder weakness. Carpenter threw for about 10 minutes from a bullpen mound in 102-degree heat, marking his first activity since interrupting his rehab to pursue a second opinion from a Dallas specialist. Carpenter, who was within five days of beginning a minor-league rehab assignment when confronted by renewed weakness last Sunday in Kansas City, said Friday he believes himself back on course.

"Chris Carpenter was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome.
The determination was made after Carpenter traveled to Dallas, Texas on Thursday to visit Dr. Gregory Pearl, a specialist in thoracic outlet syndrome. Symptoms of the condition include pain in the neck and shoulder and a weak grip. The 36-year-old right-hander threw a bullpen session Friday and fully intends to pitch through the condition, but Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak confirmed that he will likely require a procedure during the offseason."

It is very simple if he cannot perform this year I think the fat lady will soon be tuning up. The way number 50 is pitching and the bullpen struggling maybe he needs to go down there to help.

Carp should not have been re-signed.
StL made the move because they feared how Wainright would respond.
Bottom line, this is more than likely his swan song in a Redbirds uni.
With Lohse and Lynn pitching well, plus Wainright is getting stronger and stronger, the Cards are fine...and I have not got to Garcia yet.
