Possible Rangers targets

07:53 AM ET 07.01 | Rather than throw Monopoly money at marginal players -- e.g., Jason Garrison -- the Rangers might revisit a deal for the Coyotes' Keith Yandle if the price becomes right as the summer evolves. The Blueshirts are likely to at least investigate the possibility of signing Jordin Tootoo, the 29-year-old, eight-season Predators veteran with the checkered history who could play a role similar to Brandon Prust. Glen Sather is likely to check in on Shane Doan, but it is believed the long-time Phoenix captain would prefer to remain out west even if he does not re-up with the Coyotes. The GM probably will check with Alex Semin of the Capitals, Jiri Hudler of the Red Wings, Brad Boyes of the Sabres and Ray Whitney of the Coyotes, but is unlikely to offer lucrative multi-year deals to entice any of them.

so wait...are they saying that the NYR are looking at different free agents? That they are trying to fill a vertiety of needs? But probably won't offer anyone anything substansial? This is amazing! This is the kind of hard core, sleeves up investigative reporting that makes the NY POST, (and indeed ALL Rupert Murdoch publications) the bastion of journalism that it is. This is os insightful, it seelms as if someone hacked Sather's phone

This is not a judgement Spiny but by the look of your post you had a very late gig last night. ;-)

His audience only listens to the sound bites and talking points. They probably never reached the end of the article to find out it was a non-story.

I don't really like any of the articles speculating on who is looking at whom and why a particular player might sign with a particular team. Its all pure speculation based on faulty and incomplete information. Look at all the hand wringing articles they had over whether Shero was going to keep the big three in Pittsburgh. Well that's all done now so we get a thread about whether Malkin will sign in two years.

Kane needs to hit some more bars so we have something new to talk about.

I fully expect the Rangers to sign a couple big names to fill the seats, have a good year, and then fade in the playoffs again. If the last few Stanley Cups has shown us anything, a well rounded group of good players and a couple of leaders will play better in the long run than three or four high profile players and mediocre support staff.

You realize that there has been 10 different winners, in the last 11 years played, so the Rangers have a better than even chance of making it to the big dance. Just choose your partner wisely, the Kings were on a roll this year.

Relax, Spiny! Could be worst. They could be calling it a "frenzy" like they do on TSN.

He's 35 so he can ask for it. Hope he chooses his team wisely, might be his last grab for a ring.

When Parise is off the board, a lot of teams will jump on the Doan sweepstakes. He's the consummate competitor and will help whoever signs him.
