08:44 AM ET 07.01 | The three-year contract extension that Gophers men's basketball coach Tubby Smith will receive soon -- estimated at about $6.5 million, excluding performance bonuses -- does not provide for salary increases for assistant coaches. Raises for Smith's assistants will be negotiated separately by the coach, but they will have to be approved by new athletics director Norwood Teague. Meanwhile, the University of Minnesota is committed to building a basketball practice facility. Recently retired AD Joel Maturi will have input in the project.

Is Minnesota relevant? They are the B1G's version of Texas Tech in the Big 12...IMHO.

If you commit yourself to have a winning program everyone has to be on the same page. Upgrade your facilities, pay your coaches well, keep your alumni happy, and your fan base will keep growing each year.

I think a few years ago, no one would even think that was funny. But Iowa has slipped the last few years. I thought Ferentz was overpaid and now he just continues to prove it season after season. It has gotten so bad that he has stooped to hiring a UTx guy as offensive coordinator.
