Tech AD: A&M exit helps Big 12 recruiting

08:56 AM ET 07.01 | Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said A&M's split for the SEC will benefit the state's Big 12 schools. "There's so much talent in Texas, and young people grow up wanting to play in the state," Hocutt said. "You want to play where your family can drive to watch your games, and you want to play against those programs you were familiar with while growing up. From a recruiting standpoint, there are going to be some consequences. With the Aggies' competitive focus shifted to the Southeast, there's going to be an inherent advantage for Texas Tech and other members of the Big 12 Conference."

Wasn't this discussed like a year ago?

LOL....kind of late to the party, but it is TTU

Tech won't be relevant until they get a coach similar to Leach. Tubberville needs equal talent as his opponents to be successful. He doesn't seem to be able to coach up lesser talent IMHO.

Yes we did. I doubt it makes any difference one way or the other...Aggie will still get kids similar to what they've been getting. Same with Tech. The schools that seem to be getting more interest in the top in state recruits are TCU and Baylor.

The Eyes of Urban Are Upon You. There's a few in Texas who might wind up playing out of state as well.

A few! They are already scattered all over the damn country. Bunch of pilfering thieves I say!

Agree here...I see more kids going out of state.

There are some that will stay in-state so "their families can watch them play", but there are also a number that have definite, and reachable, dreams of the NFL and they will go to where they think they have the best chance.

One reason AP went to OU instead of TU. Nothing against TU, and they send quite a few to the NFL as well, but in his mind, OU was the better fit.

So where does West Virginia fit in here?

Didn't you know West Virginia was in the southwestern portion of the US?

true but damn I wanted to see him and VY in the same backfield in 04-05. That would have been unreal. Add in Jamaal Charles and Ramonce. Crazy good backfield.

Yep...VY in a Sooner jersey would have been WAY nice...

Yes, but it was the reverse. Most were saying it would help aggy and sec recruiting.

Very true... This will make those two consistent top 20 programs.

Just how many blue chip recruits are from IN? Bout as many as one county in Texas?
