Can Brewers land SS for Greinke?

09:35 AM ET 07.01 | The Brewers do not want to trade Zack Greinke. They'd rather keep the ace right-hander, whether they climb into the playoff race this season or not. Confidence is not high, however, among club officials that they can make - or afford - an offer acceptable to Greinke and agent Casey Close. After San Francisco's Matt Cain signed a six-year, $127 million contract extension in the spring, the Brewers and Greinke were so far apart in talks, they ended negotiations. Doug Melvin would ask for a lot in return for Greinke, considered by many the top available pitcher if placed on the market. Considering the Brewers' gaping hole at shortstop in wake of Alex Gonzalez's season-ending knee injury, that position would be a good place to start. The Brewers have no shortstop prospects on the immediate horizon.

Jose Reyes will soon wear out his welcome in Miami!!!

Will you please Brewers hurry up and trade him so we don't have to read about it every other day.

Why would they trade him?

Because he'll quit on the team now that they're out of the race like he did in Kansas City. That and his contract is up at end of the season and he'll want ridiculous $. Just trade him to Texas and be done with it already.

I will drive Mike Aviles to Milwaukee if they give the Red Sox Greinke.

If they don't trade him, they're crazy. It's their best hope to add talent in much needed areas. Otherwise they get a 1st round draft pick, with which they can take their best shot and cross their fingers & hope they end up with something in 3 or 4 years.

The Jays have a great SS Prospect in Hech and they have other prospects to get a deal done.. Alot of teams are weary about him being a bit of a headcase tho..And who wants to give up top prospects for a rental player.
