09:45 AM ET 07.01 | If it wasn't already apparent, the Texas Rangers are making clear their intent to return to the World Series. The Rangers are scouting Philadelphia's Cole Hamels and Milwaukee's Zack Greinke as potential trade candidates, according to major-league sources. The Phillies' approach to the trade deadline remains somewhat uncertain, even after trading Jim Thome to Baltimore Saturday. But many in the industry believe the Phillies will become sellers by the end of July. Meanwhile, it is widely expected that the Brewers will make veterans available leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. A Rangers scout attended Greinke's most recent start for the Brewers, Wednesday in Cincinnati.

Getting rid of Thome wasn't a big deal and you cannot say the Phils are throwing in the towel. If the GM in Philly traded Hamels he would have to run and hide somewhere. There is a long way to go and these articles keep forgetting about an extra wild card spot this year.
About Greinke I do not know about of you but I will glad when they do trade him so we do not have to hear about it anymore.

Well, I for one said loud and clear the Rangers were smart to let him go....because of the money has was asking. But no one could foresee this big of a drop. He'll come back but he was never worth 20 million beans per!

OK, I understand the Grienke chatter but Hamels being mentioned as possible trade material kind of stuns me. The Phils should be built for the long haul, they are not a short distance team. Rearly is a veteran team considered a rabbit, they are somewhat slow but always there at the end. Don't give up on this team, make some move to shore up the 2nd base situation and wait for Howard to return, they'll gain 10 games in the standings

Being someone who lives here in Philly,I say trade Hamels and Victorino. But one has to get some worth for them. Try and throw in Mayberry if ya can......PLEASE!With Utley back,Haladay and Howard comin back soon, they still have a chance for a wild card, and then anything can happen. If they can trade, try and do something with the back end of that bullpen......again....PLEASE!

Too many teams the Phillies would have to jump over to grab a playoff spot. If the team is smart, they will prepare for next season with a fully healthy roster. No reason to rush Howard and his bloated contract onto the field this season, and give Utley some days off. They'll be back next season.

many moons ago the cardinals won the world series with 84 wins..stranger things have happened--to think they could get anything back of value for a guy like hamels is insane thinking on the part of the phillies.

Here's da deal, the fact that they have a tough division, could work out to there favor, if any team gets hot and knocks off the top dog another team can slip in thru the cracks, but The Phillies haven't got hot yet, the mets are very capable of winning 6 in a row against da braves & Nats then lose 6 in a row to da Phils & Marlins, it might or might no be the Mets, but Philly and Another team have to get hot to make up some games! It could also work against them!
